At CARES (Communities and Relatives Empowered for Support with Substance Misuse), we are dedicated to confronting the widespread issue of addiction that affects more than 25% of families in the United States. Our mission is clear: to foster a community that breaks the cycle of addiction through education, support, and shared understanding.
CARES was initiated to address this challenging social issue with a focus on young adults and families who have experienced the impacts of addiction firsthand. By establishing a supportive network, we provide education and therapy aimed at reducing the recurrence rates and breaking the generational chain of addiction.
Our program, developed in collaboration with The Steve Hicks School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin, harnesses the power of volunteer-led initiatives. These initiatives are rooted in community involvement and are designed to educate and empower those affected by addiction. By joining CARES, members find themselves part of a like-minded community that understands the nuances and struggles of addiction.
We strive to eliminate the stigma associated with addiction by promoting open dialogue and offering a platform for personal stories and educational resources. Our peer network model includes personal updates, member testimonials, educational speakers, and mentorship opportunities, all of which reinforce our commitment to nurturing a supportive environment.
Join CARES and be part of a community that not only supports recovery but also advocates for awareness and change. Here, you will find no judgment, only open arms and a network of individuals who are eager to support each other in overcoming the challenges of addiction. Together, we can change the narrative around addiction and foster hope and healing for everyone involved.
